How to plan a multi-generation family photoshoot

Groupings, pacing and comfort tips for bringing grandparents, parents and children together in one relaxed session.

Start with the guest list

Count every adult, child and baby, and note anyone who needs seating or extra time. We are a time-based service with no person limit, so the key question is how many groupings you want, not how many people come.

Plan the groupings in order

We usually begin with the full family while energy is fresh, then move to each household, grandparents with grandchildren, and finally couples and siblings. Grandparents can rest between setups.

Choose the right session length

Essential (60 minutes) suits one or two families, Extended (90 minutes) two or three, and Grand three or four. If you are unsure, tell us who is coming and we will recommend the simplest fit.

“Plan the groupings, then let the connection happen.”
Quick checklist
  • Share family size, ages and mobility needs
  • List the must-have groupings
  • Coordinate a colour palette across households
  • Book 2–4 weeks ahead for weekends
